Autologous blood therapy is based on a natural process in which the body's own protein injections promote self-healing. The injection can be made directly at the affected area and therefore efficiently support the healing process.
Injuries to the musculoskeletal system
Our musculoskeletal system consists of many interlocking structures that enable us to move actively and consciously. The force transmitters, our tendons - which connect the musculoskeletal system - make targeted movements possible. The ligaments serve to strengthen and secure our joints. This system is exposed to great mechanical stress. It is not uncommon for injuries to occur as a result of overloading and/or incorrect loading or as a result of violence (accidents).
How do you recognise injuries
A second opinion is intended to avoid a wrong diagnosis or to give patients the certainty that the initial medical findings are correct and make sense. Depending on the diagnosis, alternative treatment options can be indicated.
How do you recognise injuries
Pain, swelling and overheating
Restricted joint mobility
The body's own therapy for injuries
During the healing of musculoskeletal injuries, precisely regulated natural processes take place in our bodies. Among other things, growth factors (special proteins) are involved in this process. These growth factors come from the blood platelets. When injured, blood platelets accumulate at the wounded site and release these proteins, which support the healing process. Autologous blood therapy is based on this natural process. These body's own self-healing powers are taken in high concentration - by blood sampling with special tubes - and then injected into the affected joint / region. Depending on the type of injury, the frequency of injections with platelet-rich plasma varies.
Indications for autohaemotherapy
Mild to moderate arthrosis
Ligament and muscle injuries
Advantages of autologous blood therapy
Promotion of self-healing potential
Body's own product without risk of allergic reaction
Fast, ambulant treatment (< 30 min.)
Treatment procedure
1. Blood sample taken from a vein in the arm
2. Centrifugation (separation) of the extracted blood to obtain the highly concentrated growth factors (platelet-rich plasma)
3. Injection of the extracted plasma into the affected joint or region.
Preparation for patient
Fluid intake should be increased 24 hours before the procedure.
The intake of NRSA (Brufen, Olfen, Voltaren, etc.) should be paused 24 h before the injection.
The intake of blood thinners (Xarelto, Eliquis, Marcoumar) should be paused in consultation with the doctor.
No excessive alcohol consumption 24 h before.
Autologous blood therapy is not recommended for the following patients
Infection at the injection area
Acute or chronic systemic infection (blood poisoning, HIV, etc.)
Blood coagulation disorder
Anaemia (low blood count)
Progressive tumour disease
